Notes From Nikki's Dressing Room
Prom 2012 Trend
When ordering this year’s gowns we stayed true to our ordering techniques. When you step into our store this prom season you will see a wide variety of styles, sizes, and colors from all different designers. We work to only buy one gown per color per style, so that your gown will truly be unique at prom. Be sure to shop early, so that we can order your correct size in the color that you love! Our Prom 2012 gowns will be arriving in November and December, which makes January the perfect time to shop.
And now for the trends…..
Embellishments:
High-Low: You saw this trend a little last year with the popular Sherri Hill 8300 dress. This year it was all the rage. Every designer was sure to have multiple high-low styles to choose from.
Lace: No, we did not buy any fully laced dresses but lace is definitely in! It was used as an accent or a small embellishment to make for an elegant look on some beautiful gowns. We saw lace bodices, ruffles for skirts, or even underlays.
Polka Dots: Every line we saw had at least 1 Polka Dot print dress! History has shown we can not sell polka dots in our store but if anyone would like a polka dot dress we will be happy to order it for you.
BLING!: Is there such thing as OD’ing on bling? We didn’t think so until we got to market! Every line has multiple all sequined, beaded, or rhinestone gowns. Some lines are only made up of such gowns.
Cut outs: There is no place you won’t see a cut out this year. Ballgowns? YES. Chiffon gowns? Yes. You name it and it will have a cut out of some kind!
Ruffles: This was another trend that entered the market last year and has since exploded! You will find mermaid style gowns with ruffled bottoms as well as ball gowns.
Sleeves: Cap sleeves, long sleeves, one sleeve, you name it they have it! Sleeves are definitely in.
Mirrors: We have to admit Sherri Hill started this trend and it is not going anywhere soon. You will see mirrors on tons of dresses in every line! So many mirrors it is just blinding!
Feathers: This fun and flirty embellishment was seen all throughout market. From ballgowns to cocktail dresses feathers made for a truly unique touch.
Materials:
Comfort is definitely in this year! If it isn’t fully beaded designers stuck with comfortable materials like jersey and chiffon. Sure there will still be some satin, tulle, and taffeta but majority of lines were made up of these soft flowing materials. We love jersey dresses, it looks well on many different bodies and is comfortable to wear...you will see many in our store this year!
Most popular body style: Mermaid (also known as trumpet) style.
We had a ton of requests last year for mermaid style gowns and we did our best with what the market had for us but this year you mermaid lovers will be happy to know the style is definitely back in!
Colors
Nude, Nude, Nude...most popular and new color that you will see this season...we loved it and will have a whole rack dedicated to this new refreshing color! Other than nude there was no real direction for color...there were some neons but not as much as the industry had expected( thank goodness)...every designer had their own colors this year although I have heard coral is the new black... nothing can replace a gorgeous black dress...white looks like it will be strong again this year too!
Prints
There are very few prints this season...I think the designers need a break from them...also the prints that are out there aren't as beautiful as in the past few years. We picked the best of the prints out there...we hope you love them!...animal prints have stayed strong...for me they never go out of style!
